WHO ARE WE?

Catholic Education Commission in Malawi (CECOM) is an arm of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM). CECOM’s mandate is to oversee the provision of quality education in Catholic education institutions in Malawi, apart from contributing towards the fulfillment of the enjoyment of the Right to Education by all school-going population in the country. Currently, CECOM oversees the provision of education in 1,538 primary schools, 14 national Catholic Secondary schools, 127 Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSSs), 7 Technical Colleges, 2 Teacher Training Colleges, 2 Universities and other private primary, secondary, and tertiary education institutions in Malawi.

CECOM implements projects aimed at improving the quality and access to education in Malawi. It cooperates and works in conjunction with government and other partners locally and internationally. It is currently a member of the Civil Society Education Network (CSEC), National Network on Girls Education, and Association of Christian Educators in Malawi (ACEM) among many others. Internationally, CECOM is a member of the Association of Catholic Teaching in Africa and Madagascar (ASSECAM), a member of International Catholic Education, and a member of the Global Faith Coalition on Education (GFC).
