Who we are
The Catholic Education Commission (CEC) is an arm of the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops. Its mandate is to oversee quality education in Catholic institutions and contribute to every learner’s right to education. CEC implements programmes that improve educational quality and access through structures at national, diocesan, deanery, parish and community levels.
CEC oversees 21 national Catholic secondary schools, 130 Community Day Secondary Schools, 10 technical colleges, two teacher-training colleges, two universities, and other private primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Catholic institutions represent approximately 28% of Malawi’s primary schools and 12% of its secondary schools.

National collaboration
CEC works with Malawi’s Ministry of Education and partners including the Civil Society Education Network, National Network on Girls’ Education and Association of Christian Educators in Malawi.
International networks
The Commission participates in ASSECAM, the International Office of Catholic Education and the Global Faith Coalition on Education.
