Catholic Youth Council to Hold First Annual Quarterly Meeting

Lilongwe – The Catholic Youth Council in Malawi will convene its first quarterly meeting of the year from 13 to 15 February at Our Lady of Africa Conference Centre in Lilongwe, bringing together youth leaders from across the country to reflect and deliberate on issues affecting young people.

The meeting will be guided by the theme, “Commit your work to the Lord and your plans will succeed” (Proverbs 16:3), underscoring the council’s commitment to faith-guided planning and action in youth ministry.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Vice Chairperson of the Catholic Youth Council, Aaron Mkandawire, described the meeting as a decisive opportunity to energise the mission of the Church among the youth.

“We will focus on strategic priorities such as annual planning, resource mobilisation, budget consultations, fundraising initiatives and practical programmes for youth empowerment,” Mkandawire said. “We will also confront social challenges facing young people today, including promoting the equal dignity of both the boy child and the girl child.”

He called on diocesan leaders to submit their action plans by 12 February to ensure vibrant participation and united direction.

Blessings Kachepa, responsible for logistics, affirmed that preparations have been completed and enthusiasm is high ahead of the event.

“Everything is in place to ensure a successful meeting, and all delegates are expected to attend,” Kachepa said. “This meeting will bring positive changes to youth ministry in Malawi, and we urge all invited delegates to honour the invitation, as each one has been called for a purpose.”

The meeting will also be graced by the National Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Patrick Kamba.

The council expects the gathering to strengthen coordination, boost youth initiatives, and foster a vibrant Catholic youth ministry in Malawi.
